The Very Hungry Wonder Pug

So, we were sitting at lunch yesterday and Sam dropped a french fry....Okay, so it was not a very healthy lunch. But nevertheless, he dropped a french fry on the floor. And since we have spent a great deal of time the last few months reinforcing the importance of not eating off the floor, Sam actually left it there!

Now at our house, we seldom have to pick food droppings up off the floor because we have Guapo. For those of you who have not met our dog, he is a 8 1/2 year old pug affectionately deemed "Guapo the Wonder Pug." Guapo is a GREAT eater, so we often catch ourselves (sometimes even in other people's houses) yelling, "Guap!" as soon as any morsel of food hits the floor.

So this day was just like any other. Guapo heard food traveling through the air and he was on it! About this time, Sam looked at Keith and said, "He wasn't a little Guapo anymore. He was a big, fat Guapo!"

Keith and I looked confused for a minute, then it all came rushing back as Sam continued, "He built a small house, called a cocoon around himself and stayed inside for more than 2 weeks. Then he ate a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out and HE WAS A BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY!"

For Sam's first Christmas (when he was a little over a month old), he got copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It has always been a favorite of both of our boys. In fact, it is now held together with duct tape...like every other dearly loved item south of the Mason-Dixon line.

So we all sat at the table while Sam quoted every little thing Guapo had eaten that day. My precious boy was convinced that at any moment, we would have a Guapo-shaped butterfly on our hands. I keep trying to imagine a butterfly with an underbite...

No cocoon yet...but we will keep looking. : )
