It may not seem like a big deal to you...

Today, I took the boys to the park in the morning. Due to the heat, we are struggling to find things to do without spending every waking second at the pool. So early today, we got ready and headed to a park with good shade to take full advantage of the cooler morning.

We spent the first hour playing in the sand. The boys were excited to find some sand toys in the garage from a trip to the beach a few years ago. They had been begging to try them out for awhile, but I kept forgetting. Today was the day!

We were knee deep in sand, leaves and rocks, when a little boy came over to talk to us. He instantly started talking about Mario Galaxy, his favorite video game. I talked with him for awhile and tried to engage Sam in the conversation, since he is such a fan of video games.

Before long, Sam wandered off with this little guy. I watched them walk around the playground, all the while engaging in a deep conversation about cars, Mario and video game strategy. To most people, that may not seem like a big deal. But to us, what a blessing! Sam has been in speech therapy for over 2 years, specifically working on social speech. Conversation has always been a struggle for him. But there he was, my boy chatting with another kid for over an hour.

Every day, it seems like we notice one more area where Sam seems to be turning a corner. Things that used to cause major blow-ups, like losing a game, are no longer a big deal. We see him handling more and more things with maturity. And today, an hour long conversation!!!

So far, this summer has been full of uncertainty. God constantly uses moments like this to remind me that He is faithful in the midst of uncertainty. Although some things don't seem to be working out the way I thought they should, he is still working for my good, and the good of my children.

An hour long conversation...priceless.
