I blew it yesterday. It was water day at Sam's school and I forgot. I was supposed to send him to school with water shoes, a swimsuit and a towel and I didn't. May has been a special month at his school---because most of the kids in his class are graduating and heading to kindergarten next year, they have celebrated all month long. I remembered backwards day, crazy hair day, tea party day, field day...even bring your favorite music day! But I forgot water day and I feel like dirt...
In my defense, Sam goes to 2 schools. He goes to what he calls "new school" all day Monday through Wednesday, then he goes to the local elementary school's PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) class on Thursday and Friday mornings. He calls that one "big boy school." Then he heads back to "new school" for Thursday and Friday afternoons. Confused? Me, too. If I wasn't staying home next year, I might look into an administrative assistant to manage Sam's ever-growing social calendar.
But for now, it is up to Mommy and Daddy to keep it all straight. Some days go better than others. So I have made a habit of checking the calendar every day before we head out the door. And I looked yesterday, but it didn't say water day. It said END OF THE YEAR PARTY. I apparently was out of the loop. But now I know, End of the Year Party=Please wear a swimsuit.
So today, Sam and I headed out the door to "big boy school" for the last time this year. Since school gets out next Wednesday, today was his last day. And lucky for me, it was water day! I seized the opportunity to redeem myself. Sam headed out the door this morning in his Finding Nemo swim trunks, complete with swim shoes, sunscreen, towel, water bottle, bubbles, shaving cream and end-of-the-year teacher gifts. Admittedly, I left the water bottle in the car, but he did arrive with the everything else...
