Week 23 Training Update

I mentioned before that I am walking in the Breast Cancer 3-day benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. So in November, I will travel to Dallas and walk 20 miles a day for three days. This means that I have to start walking now. Actually, I had been "training" on and off since the new year, but there is a 24-week training schedule that started last week. So since Memorial Day, I have walked 20.75 miles. I decided to map how far I walk over the summer, so I can see if I can walk the distance to my parent's house in Georgia. But that's 973 miles, so I think I have a good bit left to go.

Last Saturday, I met a group of women at Town Lake (oops...guess it's Ladybird Lake now) for my first training walk. We walked 7.4 miles around downtown. Since they are walking in Boston and Chicago (those walks happen much earlier in the year) they continued and walked a total 13 miles on Saturday. I offered them my best wishes...my time will come soon enough.

But so far, so good. Before the summer is over, the boys will have logged some serious miles in the jogging stroller. Sam runs beside the stroller for awhile and then hops back in when he gets tired. Stephen prefers to just chill and enjoy the breeze. Sam keeps my mind off the mileage by looking for our house number. He checks every house we walk by to see if it has the same number as ours.
We have to walk at night or early in the morning since it already hit 100 degrees here yesterday. It has been around 96 degrees everyday for over 2 weeks. And the high today is 100 as well. Ugh! I now see the motivation to walk in Chicago.
So here I am with my semi-reluctant training buddies... I guess we will have to take it one day at a time.
